She's home

Clara officially broke out of the hospital at around 6:30pm Saturday. She was only there for a little more than 48 hours. We are told that is good for RSV patients. There is a chance that her multiple vaccines played a big role in her not getting as serious of a case as she could have.

Thank you so much for your kind words, prayers, notes of encouragement and just general support. We heard from so many people with kids that went through the same scare. Some not as bad, some much worse. It made these past few days so much easier to hear stories from other parents who had already been through this and made it out unscathed.

In case you haven't spent that much time in the hospital, it sucks. And being sick is only about 10% of why it sucks. You are constantly being, poked, prodded and bothered. I have had surgery twice. It was miserable and I couldn't imagine a more awful experience. Then I sat through three different surgeries with Karey. That was way worse. It is so hard to see someone you love go through that mess. Once again, I couldn't imagine a more awful experience. Then I witnessed my DAUGHTER get admitted to the hospital. That just sucked. (I was in search of more artful language, but sucks just seems to fit.)

The hospital staff was truly incredible. They did everything they could to keep her comfortable, but there is only so much you can do when they are sticking needles in your arm, shoving industrial suckers up your nose and shoving medicated steam in your mouth. Despite this experience, our tough little baby actually gained 3 ounces! She is well on her way back to perfect health. We feel so fortunate.

But.. just in case you don't believe it was an awful experience, here is some video evidence. This was at the end of her stay, when she was feeling the best.

We are so glad she is home.

Oh my Lord.
I watched 3 seconds of that video and almost started crying.
Absolutely heartbreaking. (And I feel your pain - my 3 year old has gone to the ER three different times for various injuries including the last time when she had to get two staples in her head.)
God bless your family, and I'm glad your little girl is home where she belongs.
What does not kill us makes us stronger, and going through a child's hospitalization definitely makes one strong.

Hello Ryan (and family) It's been a long time since the days at CV and Gerry but our Carol (who used to babysit you)sent us this link to your blog. It is good to catch up with you and especially to hear the good news of your little one's homecoming. We will continue to remember you all in our prayers for a complete and permanent recovery. I have tried to call your dad a couple of times but the phone company tells me the number I have has been disconnected. Tell him to call some day. Best wishes. paul Cooley

Praise God! What a little trooper. Her little cry is just about heartbreaking in the video--no doubt you got to scoop her up and love on her after that. Nothing better!! Continued prayers for a smooth transition home. Thanks for the update!

Poor little bug in her video! That must have been so hard. Thankful she is home with you'll now.

My husband's cousin's daughter (who is now 2.5yrs old) spent 2 days at St. Mary's in the PICU with RSV when she was only almost two months old. We assume she caught the virus from her older brother who was in kindergarten at the time. She recovered well & has no lasting effects. Just relaying the story in effort to give you'll hope that she'll put this behind her quickly!

She's beautiful!
